The full round story, that is what makes something fascinating.

Hi friend-

My name is sonora mindling-werling, or Mindwerl for short.

I grew up among the mountains and agaves of oaxaca mexico for the first half of my life, and among the forests and ferns of the pacific northwest for the second.

as a child, i lived in a world of imagination and creativity- running wild on the 2 acres of countryside my parents lived on in rural oaxaca, playing dress up and spinning endless stories and adventures in my mind- playing at bandits and renegades and fairies among the cariso and the zanjas. living half in this world, and half in a world of magic that i created for myself.

as i grew and moved to the U.s. this imagination began to channel itself more and more into my art- the symbols and images flowing as if with a mind of their own from my hands onto whatever medium i was working on.

creating designs and paintings is my form of making the world a more beautiful place.

I started making jackets and wearable pieces in 2016, and immediately was smitten by the idea of creating a painting that would become a statement piece in someones wardrobe. something that makes them feel fierce and stunning and powerful.

“Art, for me, is my purest expression of love.”

Be driven by an ever ongoing search for what matters to you. Keep checking in. Keep looking. Keep asking. If that awareness is overshadowed by fear, it can create static and confusion in your search for why you’re doing whatever you’re doing.

Try and get all that out of the way and go for your vision, whatever that vision is.

Because then it’s more true to yourself and that will make you more happy.

When they ask me why I make art, I don’t much know what to say.  I can’t imagine living otherwise. I can’t imagine  not answering that deep heart/soul NEED to create. NOT making art has simply never been an option. It’s the only thing I do where I forget that time exists, I forget to pee, I even forget to breathe sometimes, and when I come up from that state of complete immersive flow, it’s always a delight and a bit of a surprise to see what exactly it is that I’ve made.
